Denver Microbrew tour a great way to spend an afternoon

If you're visiting Denver (or even if you live here), you should check out the Denver Microbrew Tour.

It's a fun way to get out and see the town, drink some beer and even learn a thing or two. The tour started with a brewery tour at Great Divide. It's really amazing that all the beer that Great Divide brews come from this single location.

Other than the tour guide telling us that 2-row base malt wasn't "malted" the tour was quite good.

After the tour, we gathered in the brewhouse and sampled Great Divide's Wild Raspberry Ale, Hercules Double IPA, Hoss Rye Lager, and Yeti Imperial Stout.

I was hesitant to try the Wild Raspberry, as I'm usually not too fond of fruit beers, but this one was different - it wasn't syrupy sweet. The Hoss Rye Lager, was also pretty good. It has a more musty taste than I'm used to in a lager.

I've had Hercules before and it didn't disappoint. Even though the temperature was in the 90s, the Yeti Imperial Stout left me yearning for more. It's got quite an Espresso kick to it.

There were 18 of us on the tour, with the majority coming from out of state. From Great Divide, we headed down the street to Breckenridge where we sampled the Agave Wheat and the Vanilla Porter. On the way, we got to hear about Denver's Red Light District along Market Street.

We passed Coors field, heard about Sandlot Brewery and Falling Rock, then made our way to Wynkoop.

At the 'koop, we tried Patty's Chile Beer and B3K Schwarzbier. To be honest, I've always been to scared to try Patty's, but after a sample (or two) I really enjoyed the flavor and thought it would go great with Enchiladas.
From the 'koop, we jumped on the Mall Shuttle and debarked at Rock Bottom. Here we tried Falcon Pale Ale and Molly's Brown.

Since your admission gets you a coupon for a free pint, we stuck around for dinner and a beer.

Tickets are $23 and tours run on the weekends.
