Keeping track of those pesky to-dos

I'm the type of person who will likely forget about something unless I jot it down. Over the years I've used whiteboards, sticky notes (both real and computerized) and notebooks to keep track of my to-dos.

But I keep coming back to a very handy Web application by 37Signals called Backpack. Backpack allows you to create pages with checkable lists, and notes. It also has writeboards, journals, reminders and if you pay for it (I don't) calendars and more than two users.

The free version includes up to five pages and I usually set one up for work, one for home, one to catch blog ideas and a couple for temporary project organization.

The writeboard feature is really nice for taking notes during meetings and conference calls. One feature that is really handy is the ability to email content to your page. I'll use this feature to send an email that I need to take action on to my page. When I go to the page, I see it there and won't forget about it.

You can also set up reminders that will come through via email or SMS. The SMS option is pretty handy when I'm not at my computer, but need to remember to do something.

At work, we use 37Signal's Basecamp project management tool. The cool thing is that I have a single sign on between the two products, so I don't need to remember another password.
