The other day, I was surprised to discover that Fatcow.com, the company I use to host this blog allows multiple sites to be served from one account. I’ve had various accounts with Fatcow over the last five years, and I’ve been pretty happy with the service, but being limited to only one site always irked me.
I tested it out and was able to set up www.piratecycling.com in a few hours.
I originally saw them in an ad in Wired.com, which was advertising web hosting for $99/year. The price is now only $88/year and if you’re a new user it’s $66/year.
For $99/year, I get unlimited domains, unlimited storage and unlimited bandwidth. I also get 20 MySQL databases. That means that I could theoretically run 20 Drupal sites for less than $100 a year.
Another nice thing about Fatcow is that they allow you to change your PHP settings. So if I need to, I can up my PHP memory limit, which really comes in handy in Drupal.
Fatcow is no Rackspace, although I think I’ve had more downtime with Rackspace over the last two years. In the last couple weeks, my sites have gone down or been really slow a couple times, but they were back up pretty quickly.
And if that wasn’t enough, Fatcow is also powered 100% by wind energy, which is pretty cool in my book.
