Garmin killer feature lets you race against yourself

I’m spending more time looking into the many features of the Garmin Edge 305. On my last ride, I tried out the Virtual Partner feature and it’s pretty cool.

Basically the feature lets you race against yourself on one of your previous rides. The display shows an icon of you and your virtual partner with a graphical display of how far ahead (or behind) you are. It also gives you the distance of how far ahead (or behind) you are. You can also see ride data or a simple map of where you are on the ride.

Like the other screens, you can choose what data you want to display. I just left it at the default settings and they seem to work fine.

How to install OS X when your DVD drive is broken (or missing)

Leopard disk

The DVD drive in my MacBook Pro is really flaky. It can read and write video DVDs just fine, but for some reason, it can’t read software DVDs.

So, when I needed to install an OS upgrade, I needed to find another way to do it. I had previously installed some software by putting the disk in my wife’s Mac and then mounting the disk over the network. I read that that method would not work in this case, plus it would probably take forever.

A rather belated review of Ranger IPA

New Belgium Brewery is one of my favorite breweries. India Pale Ale is one of my favorite beer styles. So, you can image in the excitement I felt when on Feb. 2, the clerk at my local liquor store gave me a bottle of (the yet to hit the shelves) New Belgium Ranger IPA.

Roller Derby bout challenges my assumptions

You know the old adage about not judging a book by its cover? Well, I experienced the perfect example of that last night when we went to watch the season opener of the Denver Roller Dolls roller derby league.

Since I had never been to a roller derby match, I based my assumptions on the few pictures I’ve seen of Roller Derby girls, and expected it to be a small crowd of rockabilly-fashioned folk drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon. Turns out I was way off – well, except for the PBR part.
